June 11, 2002: Switcher Campaign Begins Airing

by Chris Seibold Jun 11, 2011

For those who don't remember the "Switch Ads," the drill was as follows: a former PC user stood against a white background and explained why they moved from the PC to the Mac.

It was a simple concept but the execution was a source of great interest for computer enthusiasts everywhere. The Apple fans saw the testimonials as reinforcement of everything they thought was good about Macs. People who weren't fans of the spots saw what they considered a collection of the weird traipse across the screen.

The switcher ads never amounted to a market share success but they did stir a lot of interest, both good and bad, in Apple. The ads began airing this week in 2002.
